  • Are you smarter than a building?

Last week, I had to go to an off-site office for some work.  Although this office is smaller that the one that I regularly work at, it does have basement parking, which is a lot better than having to fend for a parking space every morning in New York City.  I need to try to get into permanent work at this office.  Did I mention that it is about 10 minutes from where I live?  Yeah, I really need to get there.

Anyway, when I get there, I realized a couple of things.  First, I left the name of the guy that I needed to contact back at the office, and I only knew his first name.  Second, I never called him from my cell phone, so I didn’t have his number.  However, Ranger School and a lot of mistakes have taught me to be resourceful, and I was able to find him in under 5 minutes.

The guy said that I did a lot better than the previous two people that had been sent out there.  Prior to me, a girl came out there, and she ended up calling him from the stairwell, because she could not get out.  Apparently, once you enter the stairs for the building (there is a different set of stairs to move between the floors controlled by this organization), the only way to exit them is to go all the way down to the basement to exit.

She is only slightly than the guy that came before her, who called from the basement, because he could not get out.  Apparently, even if you go all the way down, if the basement is locked up, you can’t get out there.

So, the guy said I had earned one point.

  • Hmm, now if you get a job there will you have a OC to do everyday? I do hope and pray you will get closer to home.  Now I have not fired a weapon in a long time…what’s your excuse.  Now really that is bad.  (smile smile).  By the way on the phone message on some messages you will get an option that you have run out of time would you like to continue (press 4 I think). Make a suggestion to the person they might need to change their settings?  I do hope you are doing well. Need to take a trip and share some new pics please.  Take Care! Sharon

  • @justhopingnow - I’ve always pulled to the left.  It’s an issue with my grip.  Rifles are fine, but handguns are a bit of a different animal.

The phone didn’t have that time option.  I think there was something with the machine that cut off when it heard a note or a tone, and some background noise may have been setting it off.  I don’t think I’ll ever need to call it again, so I won’t be investigating it further.

  • Employment tip #1:

Avoid the stairs to the basement.

    Got it, and, thanks!

  • Hey there. I’m glad you blog!! It lets me know what’s going on with you.  Haven’t heard from you in forever. Glad that you scored some points with the guy….:)

Oh and that answering machine thing. I think its people dumb machine acting up. I used to call my friends house and it would do that all the time when the machine was full or close to full. That was a funny story though…

    Take care of yourself…

  • @Landlubber - Actually, I think the tip would be to make sure that you can reopen teh door before you can close it behind you.  So many comedies have shown this to eb an important lesson, but people just aren’t learning.
