  • Two days working with Mortuary Affairs at Kandahar.  I must say, their job is very thorough, and the guys that I worked with were excellent.  I also learned exactly what it was that I was originally supposed to do.  Let’s just say that 95% of what I was originally told was WRONG.  Horribly wrong.  Once I got past the “receive orders” (in which the info on the orders was wrong) and the part where I inventory everything, the rest was pretty much way off.  I am planning to write a little informal guide for the next poor soul that has to do it.

Meanwhile, I took the time at KAF to stock up on some items, do some face to face meetings, and get some information.  Here’s what I learned.

First, my unit “lost” the Officer Evaluation Report (OER) that I received while I was a FOB Executive Officer, so it still hasn’t been processed.  I asked my CO about it, and he told me to check with the S-1.  I asked the S-1, and he told me that he never received it.  Wonderful.   Fortunately, recreating it isn’t too hard, and I’ve emailed my old boss and I just have to get the narrative that he wrote, and I should be good.  Also, he keeps a record of EVERYTHING that he does, so getting another copy should be easy.

Next, there is still no word on when I will go back to Italy.  I’m tasked to my current job until 01 MAR.  Now, there’s the date that my unit will leave.  However, because I originally arrived with a later unit, my order of merit for leaving has me leaving later.  So my CO tells me to coordinate with another commander to leave.  I email that commander, and he stated that because I was with Brigade, I should be leaving with them, and that his unit’s manifest is completed.  Meanwhile, my S-1 thought that I was leaving the same day as him, but I know that I would be here for that, and he has absolutely no answers for me.

Today, I see a SPC that I knew, congratulated him on his recent promotion, and started BS’ing with him.  He’s a PAC clerk, and I happen to mention my situation, and he tells me that the second unit (which is where he’s from) has NOT submitted their manifest, nor have they even completed it.  Seems like someone lied to me.

    Black 6, out.

  • lol to the comment you left on my xanga

as for this situation… good luck… hope that you can figure out how to use any other back door connections you have created

  • Your life just keeps getting better and better huh? I know you dont wanna be stuck there forever and all but look on the bright side, the longer you are stuck there the more money you get to bank… So there is a little bit of an upside, right? Just try to stay out of trouble until you actually figure out whats going on… In the meanwhile, I’ll enjoy my Starbucks and think about you enjoying your not so much Starbucks coffee…
    Hummm STARBUCKS = GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!

  • First, I am sorry I did not know I should address you as “Sir”. One of my jobs in Navy – Yeoman (Officer Personnel, paper pusher), and the Army – Aviation/Flight Operations, and finally AG Personnel. I read what you posted and just shocked my head. Unfortunately, sometimes people will answer what “they” were told and believe. I cannot help but remember how the Army National Guard was not accepting my “time” in the Navy. This not only affected my pay but my opportunity for promotion. I would turn the paperwork in repeatedly. Personally, hand carried the paperwork to S-1. After the mistake was finally corrected I had pulled duty working in the Chow Hall, but that was fun. Of course, I never received a pay reimbursement. HOWEVER, the person that made the mistake was requested to leave. Of course, I think the fact he was discovered riding his tractor at night unclothed might have help. Do try to talk with SPC maybe he can help you out. Unfortunately, some people’s paperwork has a habit of being misplaced. It only took me twice to get my Special Top Secret Background paperwork to not be lost.

By the way thank you for reminding me about the latest fashion rage. Funny this is so 60s. I try to encourage my 16 yr old daughters to dress properly. I plainly say how you present your self is what people will perceive. In other words do not advertise it if you do not plan to ……fill in the blank. J I and most “honorable” woman love feeling pretty. This is inwardly and outwardly. Sometimes just wearing a pretty (yes in the eyes of the beholder) dress, shoes will make a woman feel so self assure. Maybe a woman might enjoy for example lately getting a tattoo. I never did and do no care to get a tattoo. But hey last year I did get a Janice Jackson done J which I love/enjoy. Bottom line, it just depends on what makes you “feel” good about yourself. No I do not plan to join let’s wear our pajamas in public gang.

So I end with my funny for the day:

One afternoon, a woman and her little daughter went into a large toy store. The mother asked her daughter what toys she wanted. The little girl said, “I want GI Joe and Barbie.” The mother smiled and said, “Darling, you know Barbie doesn’t come with GI Joe.” The little girl looked up at her mom and replied, “Mom, Barbie ALWAYS comes with GI Joe. She just FAKES it with Ken.”

  • Yes! Paperwork rape!

I’m sorry to hear about all that. God that can be a huge pile of crap to deal with.

    Good luck sir!
